  • The Warsaw University of Life Sciences - SGGW was established in 1816 in Warsaw, Poland and is the country’s largest agricultural university. When the university began, it was intended for administrators and management, sons of wealthy landowners and agricultural labourers. Warsaw University of Life Sciences has 13 faculties overall, including agriculture and biology; economics; food technology; forestry; human nutrition; wood technology and veterinary medicine among others. The university focuses on enhancing creativity and education both inside and outside the classroom. The university has over 50 computer labs, a computerised main library, fully-equipped gym and leisure centre, research labs and an indoor equestrian centre. Warsaw University of Life Sciences is part of several cooperation networks, such as the Euroleage for Life Sciences (ELLS) network, along with six other universities from across Europe. The university also has 12 different international educational programmes, including Erasmus, Jeanne Monnet and TEMPUS, which allow students the opportunity to study abroad, and for international students to study in Warsaw. Notable alumni include various members of the arts, such as Polish singer and Eurovision Song Contest contestant, Cleo and members of the media, including journalist Monika Wasowska. Several alumni have gone on to be leaders in business, such as the chair of pharmaceutical company Polypharma, Jerzy Starak. Lastly, many alumni have progressed into politics, such as former environment minister and deputy of the Sejm of Poland, Jan Szyszko. Warsaw is Poland’s largest city, as well as its capital. Students have a plethora of places to visit in Warsaw, such as the Old Town, which was granted UNESCO World Heritage Site status. There are many other historical aspects for students to visit, such as the Royal Castle, Palace of Culture and Science and Lazienki Park.
