Installation and Maintenance

Installation is very similar to installing any replacement air handler, with the exception of compression fittings instead of brazed or ‘sweat’ connections. Any thermostat with 2 stages of heating can control the system. You can add electric strip heat as a backup system for the coldest days of the year. The intelligent control board displays fault codes in case part of the system require maintenance. Please note that in order to function as a heat pump, this air handler must be installed with a condenser and other installation equipment, available at an additional cost if not already included in this product bundle. To use straight electric heating, an electric heater coil is necessary and is also available at an additional cost.

Questions and Answers

Customer Questions

Who makes ACiQ?

ACiQ is made by one of the largest HVAC manufacturers in the world. With 150,000 employees in over 195 countries, their products improve the lives of millions of people around the globe. Their manufacturing is state of the art, with robotic assembly and computer assisted quality control. ACiQ has an extremely low rate of warranty return. With the features, performance and price it's the best value you can get on a mini split.

Is ACiQ better than Mitsubishi?

Mitsubishi makes great equipment, certainly. They were first to sell mini splits in the US, and they have a solid reputation. Yet ACiQ has higher SEER ratings, longer warranty, and extreme weather performance all the way down to -22! You can spend more on a mini split, but you can't get better value.

Who owns ACiQ?

1HVAC Energy is part of a family of companies with 80 years in the industry and a long reputation of putting customers first. They own ACiQ as well as a number of other quality brands.

Who will service it if something goes wrong?

You get lifetime phone support with every ACiQ mini split. Many problems can be handled by our experts without having to call in a serviceperson. If you need a serviceperson, ACiQ shares a manufacturer with Carrier mini splits. This means that highly trained technicians across the country are very familiar with these units.

Does the ACiQ air handler require brazed or flared line set connections?

The air handler will require a brazed connection while the outside condenser requires a flared connection. If you have any further questions, please call us and we will be happy to assist you.

How long would shipping and handling take?

Shipping time varies widely due to availability but when we do have it in stock and available you can expect this unit to ship within 2-4 business days and arrive shortly after that.If you have any further questions please feel free to give us a call! Thanks

Does the ACiQ come pre charged with 410a?

Yes, this unit does come precharged with refrigerant however you will still need to purchase line sets and have a contractor vacuum the system before releasing the refrigerant.

For items ID 84668 and 84669, what would be the best thermostat?

Thank you for your question. For both of these units, any thermostat with single heat and single cool settings will work. However, if you plan on using heat strips, you will need any thermostat with two heat and single cool settings. For more assistance, please give us a call.

If the ACiQ heat pump works down to -22 degrees Fahrenheit why would you have optional heater coils?

Heat Pump technology is making rapid advances in recent years. But any heat pump system is still subject to the basic physical facts - the colder it gets outside, the longer it has to run to collect heat. You can run this model efficiently in far colder weather than a traditional style heat pump, but the efficiency and heat capability reduces with the outside temperature. The BTUs start to decrease below 17 degrees, and by the time outside temps reach -22 it is operating at just above 50% capacity. Below that, the heat pump turns off. Resistance heat provides electric heat no matter the outdoor temperature, and is sometimes referred to as 'emergency' or 'aux' heat. The climate in your area may mean that you don't need one, but at the price, it is good to have the second stage backup. If you have any further questions please feel free to give us a call! Thanks.

Does power for ACIQ next gen indoor unit come from the outdoor unit like Mitsubishi

The ACIQ next gen indoor air handler requires an electrical supply of 208/230v separate from the condenser. If you have any further questions please feel free to give us a call! Thanks.

For the 36k BTU unit, is the max refrigerant pipe length is 213 ft and 98.4 ft?

(Video) How to Install a Ductless Mini-Split Air Conditioner - Blueridge

Thank you for your question. Yes, the refrigerant pipe data specified in the submittal specifies a max height difference of 98’, a refrigerant pre-charge of 25’ and a max pipe length 213'. As long as the refrigerant pipe parameters are followed, there are no performance issues. The submittal can be found under product specifications on the product page. If needed, your licensed installer can adjust the refrigerant levels. For more assistance, please give us a call.

Will both models of the Nest Thermostat work with this system?

Thank you for your question. Yes, the Nest thermostat will work with any commercial 24v thermostat. When connecting this thermostat, please follow the guidelines in the QuickStart thermostat wiring guide, which is located under resources in the product specifications section of the product page. Be sure to change the O/B setting to energize for heat. By default the heat pump setting in the Nest energizes on cooling. For more assistance, please give us a call.

Why does this 3 ton unit require a minimum 41 Amp breaker? My existing heat pump runs on a 30 Amp breaker and only draws 17 Amps (full load amps). Do I need to upgrade my circuit breaker?

It does require the larger breaker for two reasons. The first is the included basepan heater. This resistance element prevents coil freezing during the coldest temperatures and ensures a long service life. The second reason is the Hyper Heat extended heating performance. When conditions call for heat in extremely low outdoor temperature, the Hyper Heat mode keeps the condenser running at full power for long periods of time. To maintain this high-performance mode over time, you need the correct amp draw. Bear in mind that it does not always mean that it uses more power than your old model. Except in the rare conditions stated above, this heat pump is using inverter technology to ramp down and only use the minimum power needed to meet demand. This means that most of the time, it is using a fraction of the current older single stage or 2 stage heat pumps would use. This also applies to the same savings for cooling mode as well.If you have any further questions, please call us and we...
